The East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a vast and captivating landscape encompassing intimate wooded combes, immense heathland, towering cliffs, undulating hills and lush river valleys. It also includes the East Devon section of the Jurassic Coast which is home to prehistoric fossils and rocks which enable us geological insight into the Earths enchanting history. A perfect destination for the whole family, why not spend a day exploring the beaches of the Jurassic Coast to see what fossils you can uncover and try to work out what stories they may tell. The Jurassic coast is England's first natural World Heritage Site and certainly a must when visiting East Devon.
The East Devon Way is the perfect way to discover the delights of the East Devon AONB offering many different paths and tracks for you to explore. Regardless of your mode of transport, be it walking or hiking, cycling or horse riding, the diverse countryside allow all types of visitors to enjoy its many pleasures. Gliding over the expansive commons and weaving through the various hamlets, copses and valleys there is truly miles to traverse and absorb in this mysterious area. Not only is the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a wonderful location to connect with nature, but it also boasts an array of historical museums, a couple of Iron Age hill forts as well as remains of Bronze Age ancient burial grounds.
With so much variety on offer, a trip to the East Devon AONB is definitely something to add to your itinerary whether you are a visitor to the East Devon area or even if you are just looking for a fantastic and unusual day out - you will not be disappointed.
